Sara says hello to Steppin

Sara says hello to Steppin         Sara, my niece, has just been accepted to vet school after four years of animal science at Cornell University, shadowing veterinarians, numerous internships and some discouraging application responses. I well remember her days on our farm helping to feed calves when just a tiny girl. She would insist her parents bring her back to our farm in the middle of the day from a trip to the Washington County Fair,  just so she could help me with my mid day feeding and bedding of calves.

Sara was present for many surgeries on our beloved jersey cows over the years, most of them performed by our favorite veterinarian Dr. Jack Rath. Dr. Rath, Jack, was a true blessing to us in guiding our husbandry at Amity farm. Very patient, he was a peaceful person to call for a sick animal and was good at easing our concerns and helping us accept some very difficult decisions. He was happy to have Sara shadow him on two of her summer vacations.

Sara had her own sheep and a healthy flock of chickens for many years and when asked if she knew how hard it was to be on a farm and on call in any kind of weather day and night, yes, she knew. I am so happy she is on her way to being able to spend her life helping many animals.
